Illustrations for two articles in Eater’s Picnic Week 2023 series: “How to Picnic in Your Car Like a Pro“ by Amy McCarthy and “You Don’t Need a Knife to Cut a Cake at a Picnic” by Bettina Makalintal. Creative direction by Rebecca Marx.
My task was to design and illustrate a podcast tile, logo, related branding assets, and a style guide for The Splendid Table's new sister podcast, The One Recipe with Jesse Sparks for APM Studios. The design needed to feel fun, fresh, youthful, and reflective of Jesse's personality. It was also important that the tile stand out against tiles for The One Recipe's competitors, which in this case meant avoiding an emphasis on warm colors - a hard feat when depicting food! I opted to lean into a fresh, leafy green and turn the illustrations from the tile into a repeat pattern that can be used as a background on social media as well potential future merchandise. Each illustrated element can also be used on its own as a spot design element. The hand drawn logo was created in Adobe Illustrator. The illustrations were created with traditional media and collage and edited in Photoshop.
